Second Half of TCU Horned Frog Baseball Season Recap

Big 12 Conference Second Half

        With the first half of the Big 12 Conference regular season in the books, we now move on to part 2 of our TCU baseball season recap. The TCU Horned Frogs Baseball would now turn their attention towards the second half of the season which is worth a recap. They would start this by playing UT Arlington for the second time this season. The second matchup would not be as competitive as the first. As the Horned Frogs would almost shut out the Mavericks 9-1. However, this would be their fifth win in a row and give them much-needed attention. 

        After the win at home, the Horned Frogs would turn around and play another Big 12 Conference three-game series. This time against the Kansas Jayhawks, who were having a rough season. The Horned Frogs would win the series 2-1 and, in the first two games, win 25-4. Then in the third and final game of the series, the Kansas Jayhawks were able to sneak one game by a score of 2-1. While it did end their win streak, it was another series win to add the already impressive Horned Frog resume. 

Midweek Series

        The next game on the Horned Frogs schedule for the third and final time is UT Arlington in a midweek one-game series. For the third time this season, the Horned Frogs toppled the Mavericks by a score of 8-3. After losing their last, this win would get the Horned Frogs back on the right path. Before their next Big 12 Conference matchup. 

        Now in the home stretch of the season, the Horned Frogs would travel to Morgantown, West Virginia. To take on the West Virginia Mountaineers. In another sweep, the Horned Frogs took care of business on the road against a struggling Mountaineers team. They took the series by a combined score of 22-6 and now found themselves on another four-game win streak. 

        After a canceled mid-week one-game series against Incarnate Word. The TCU Horned Frogs would play arguably their biggest Big 12 Conference series. The matchup would take place against the Texas Longhorns at home in Fort Worth, Texas. In the three-game series, the Horned Frogs would fall 2-1. In the first game of the series would be edged out 4-5 to drop the first. Then in the second, the ball would roll the other way. The Horned Frogs would take their only game of the series 2-1. Finally, in the third and last game of the season. The Longhorns would come out on fire and beat the Horned Frogs 3-9 to hand them a loss in a crucial series. 

TCU Baseball Season Recap: Regular Season Home Stretch

        After the loss at home, the TCU Horned Frogs would have a single game series canceled against UTRGV. They would set their sights for ULM. The home series against the War Hawks would prove to be a rough series for the Horned Frogs. As they would fall in two of the three games. In the end the Horned Frogs would be edged out 3-4, where ULM would escape in the sixth with a single score in the first game. 

In the second contest in the first game of the doubleheader, the War Hawks bats would get going early, which would lead to an eventual 13 scores. However, the Horned Frogs would not match the score and fall short by a score of 9-13. Therefore, the third and final game of the series, the Horned Frogs, would take 6-4 to end the high note. 

The TCU Horned Frogs would then have a single game series against Texas State canceled. With that, they would then go into their final Big 12 Conference game against the Kansas State Wildcats.

The Horned Frogs would drop their first game 2-4 in a hard-fought contest and then in the second would fight back in the second to win 8-6. In the third and final game of the series, the Kansas State Wildcats would fight hard to win 8-11. This would hand the Horned Frogs another vital Big 12 Conference series loss to head into the postseason on a loss. 

Phillips 66 Big 12 Tournament 

        After tying for first for the Big 12 Conference regular-season title, the TCU Horned Frogs would then change their attention towards the Phillips 66 Big 12 Tournament. 

        In the first game of the tournament, in a rematch from the week prior, the TCU Horned Frogs were edged out the Kansas State Wildcats. However, in a hard-fought game, the Horned Frogs beat the Wildcats 7-6 to advance to the second round of the tournament to play Texas Tech. 

        After being postponed due to weather, the game was played the next day where the Horned Frogs would take care of business. The matchup, which took place in Bricktown Ballpark in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, would be a breeze for TCU as they would go onto beat the Red Raiders 7-2. 

        Now having two wins in a row in the double-elimination tournament, the TCU Horned Frogs would face the Kansas State Wildcats again. Unfortunately, in their fifth meeting of the season and second of the tournament, the Horned Frogs would be handed their first loss 2-5.

        In their third meeting of the tournament, the Horned Frogs would hit the Wildcats’ gas and mercy rule. It wojld take eight innings, the Horned Frogs would take care of the Wildcats, beating them 17-7 to advance the tournament finals. 

        In the Phillips 66 Big 12 Tournament for all the marbles, the TCU Horned Frogs were slated to play the Oklahoma State Cowboys. But, in their biggest game of the year, the Frogs came out and beat the cowboys 10-7 to make history and win the Big 12 Tournament. 

NCAA Regionals TCU Baseball Season Recap

        Coming off a successful Big 12 Tournament, the TCU Horned Frogs then turned their attention towards the NCAA Regionals. With a chance to keep their season alive. The tournament was played at home at Lupton Stadium in Fort Worth, Texas. Giving the Horned Frogs the home field advantage compared to the other three teams. 

        In the first game of the tournament, the Horned Frogs took on the Mcneese State Cowboys. The Horned Frogs were quiet in a close game in the contest until the seventh and eighth inning. Where they scored 11 of their 12 runs. They would go on to win 12-4 to advance to the second round.

        In the second game of the tournament, the Horned Frogs would be beaten by the Dallas Baptist Patriots 6-8. To hand them their first tournament loss. However, while the game was back and forth in the seventh. The team would put five scores on the board that would help them top the Horned Frogs. 

        With their season on the line, the TCU Horned Frogs would then go on to face the Oregon State Beavers. But, unfortunately, this would be the end of the line for the Horned Frogs. In a low-scoring contest that would come down to the very end, TCU would fall 2-3, ending their season. However, the final nail in the coffin would come in the ninth inning. With the Beavers scoring a single run, and then TCU would not be able to respond. 

Doing so would would end the TCU Horned Frogs their succesful season. Now with it in the past the team would head into the off-season looking to improve on an already impressive season.
