TCU Baseball vs. Texas End in Disappointing Series Loss

TCU baseball vs. Texas may not have ended in the Horned Frogs’ favor, but it didn’t hurt much in the rankings. After climbing in the rankings all the way to #3, the TCU Horned Frogs are still having a great season. Only falling three spots, the Frogs are currently ranked No. 6 in the nation. The team’s overall record is 34-12 and 16-5 in the conference. This conference record sits in the first place of the Big 12 conference with a 1 game lead over Texas. In the last week, the team played the Texas Longhorns in hard-fought three-game series at home at Lupton Stadium. The Frogs were set to face off Tuesday before the Texas series in a scheduled home game against Incarnate Word. However, the game was canceled, leaving the team with just the series for the week.

Texas Series

In a three-game series, the TCU Horned Frogs took on the Texas Longhorns in a top ten matchup. The series held the potential to be crowned the Big 12 champion and did not disappoint, with it being one of the best series of the season.

Friday Game

The series began on Friday, May 7th, and ended in a 4-5 loss by TCU. The contest started early, with both the Longhorns and Horned Frogs scoring a single run in the first inning. Then in the fourth, it would be a repeat, with both teams scoring a run in the fourth to tie it up 2-2 after the fourth. After being tied and trading blows through the first seven innings, Texas would finally hit a home run in the eighth. The home run would put the Longhorns up by one, which the Horned Frogs would not match or respond to, leading to a first game loss.

Saturday Game

The second matchup of the series was slow and somewhat uneventful that ended up in TCU tying the series 1-1. The Horned Frogs won the attack at the plate with a fantastic display of pitching from Austin Krob, Marcelo Perez, and Haylen Green. The first runs of the game were scored in the second and came in pairs as two runners were brought home. Both scores would end up being the only points of the contest for the Horned Frogs. Texas would then respond with a single run in the third, and then TCU’s talented pitching core would take over. The Frogd would win the second game in the series 2-1 to tie up the series 1-1.

Sunday Game

In the third and final game of the series, the No. 3 TCU Horned Frogs were stunned by the Longhorns. While up to the bat, the Longhorns came out on fire by hitting three home runs in the first three innings to go up 4-0 early in-game. The Horned Frogs went down 9-0 heading into the ninth and, while scoring runs in the inning, fell short 9-3. The Frogs had several opportunities to get on the board for the remainder of the game. After an error and bad luck at-bat, they would lose the third game and series.

Overview

After dropping a big top 10 series against the Texas Longhorns, the TCU Hornedfrogs will look to respond and get back on track. To get back on track, the team plays the University of Louisiana at Monroe at home in Fort Worth, Texas, in a 3-game series.
